Designer's Galleries

The Surajkund Design Galleries is Haryana Tourism’s plan to make Surajkund a hub of dynamic activities and festivities all year round. Haryana Tourism has its marked presence already at this historical venue with its prestigious platinum property, Hotel Rajhans besides Sunbird Resort and Hermitage Huts.  

The Surajkund Design Galleries hosts fifteen permanent stand alone stores, appropriately set amidst nature’s munificence, housing designers including A. Balasubramaniam, Anupama Singh, Bharti Bhalla, Chandrashekhar Bheda, Dibyendu Mukherjee, Mahesh Borse, Manish Iyar, Mukul Goyal, People Tree, Persona, Promil Pande, Ranjan S.G., Ritu Agnihotri, Ritu Beri, S.M. Kulkarni and Vishal Kapur, all of whom specialize in different mediums of Design. The Surajkund Design Galleries. Destination is an initiative to promote traditional and contemporary Indian Design and Designers, while also helping economically weak sections of craft artisans by optimal employment of their talent and expertise.

A brief profile of the designers showcasing their designs at the Surajkund Design Galleries:

Ritu Beri - Ritu Beri and her eponymous label need no introduction. A NIFT graduate and a proud protégé of Master Embroiderer Francois Lesage, Ritu launched her label in 1990 and since then has been scaling new heights, both at home and internationally with amazing regularity. Ritu is the first Indian Designer to present in Paris and successfully launch her first Luxe Collection in Paris in 1998, after highly commendable showings in Beijing, New York, Mauritius, Washington, Morocco, Russia, Nairobi, Cairo and others.

Bharti Bhalla -Designer Bharti Bhalla’s eponymous fashion label has a very versatile, modern, stylish appeal blending Indian sensibilities and romantic Design philosophy. Her style is a combination of modern and contemporary silhouettes with understated embellishments. It is also a magical fusion of western silhouettes, with Indian 'karigari' in terms of embroidery and fabrics. Bharti Bhalla’s creations speak of superb craftsmanship and quality.

Anupama Singh -Anupama Singh, educated in France in Applied & Fine Arts, University of Paris has launched a Design Centre which creates new products and designs for the promotion of Indian handicrafts, textiles, furnishings and carpets, employing local art forms and artisans .

Promil Pande - She designs lifestyle products, textiles, home furnishings, garments and handicrafts. She has been associated as a consultant with UNDP, the offices of DC Handloom and Handicraft, Ministry of Textiles, various State Corporations, the corporate sector, export houses, retail organisations and educational institutes.

Chandrashekhar Bheda - an alumna of Sir J J School of Arts, Mumbai, NID Ahmedabad and NIFT Delhi, has been working with the textiles and handicraft industry for the last 19 years. Chandrashekhar believes in the inherent, timeless beauty and strength of traditional Indian arts and crafts and offering a new perspective to meet contemporary trend demands, the world over. He has been able to keep artisan's benefit alive with the commercial viabilities through his effort.

A Balasubramaniam- A graduate of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad and a Product Design Consultant.  He has been associated with grass root artisans in India and Pakistan and specialises in wood, metal (brass and iron), glass, bamboo and cane. 

Mahesh Borse - Delhi based Textile Designer, Mahesh Borse, is a Post Graduate from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad and a Graduate from Sir J.J. School of Arts, Mumbai. He has been working as a freelance Designer in the field of Home Furnishings for over two decades.

S. M. Kulkarni -  Post graduate in Textile Design from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. Kulkarni runs Design Quest, a Design Studio and Development unit at Noida and works on various Design Development projects

Vishal Kapur - Vishal Kapur set up VKSD Studio, a Surface and Handicraft Design Studio, in 2005 and has been actively involved in creating innovative collections for home décor as well as for fashion applications. He specialises in handicraft based interior art installations. The Studio focuses on helping the handicraft sector to sustain its traditional craft and prevent it from getting lost in the jargons of the modern world. Traditional crafts where the studio is highly active, include 'zardozi' from Delhi and Bareilly, appliqué from Orissa, block painting from Jaipur, stone powder work from Madhya Pradesh, handloom from Venkatgiri and papier mache from Kashmir.

Mukul  Goyal -  An alumnus of IIT - Kanpur, National Institute of Design - Ahmedabad, Domus Academy - Milan and a Fellow of Royal Society of Arts, London, Mukul Goyal is amongst the leading Product Designers in India. He founded his company 'Designwise' in 1998, which provided him with an opportunity to experiment, innovate and design uninhibitedly. Mukul has explored various media including metals, leather, plastic, glass and ceramics for designing products, jewellery and accessories.

Ritu Agnihotri - Ritu is a postgraduate from National Institute of Design in Textile Design and a Graduate from Baroda University in Clothing and Textiles. Ritu’s creations for the Surajkund Design Galleries cover fashion and interiors. She offers a wide range of ‘kurtis’ in casual and formal wear; ‘sarees’ in exclusively designed prints, embroideries and weaves.

Preeti Ghai & Rakhi Sethi -  Persona means 'the expression of personality' and Persona by Preeti Ghai and Rakhi Sethi is the perfect expression of a creative soul. An MBA turned fashion designer, Preeti and Rakhi believe that fashion is an attitude with intrinsic aesthetic value and that is why Persona is an exclusive boutique that houses her creations as well as ensembles by other designers.

Gurpreet  Kaur Sidhu -  Gurpreet Kaur Sidhu is a graduate of the Professional Education programme of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. She started working for Gurjari before co-founding a Design and Crafts development and marketing network that eventually grew into 'People Tree', an organisation that combines a sense of social purpose and ecological responsibility, with the spirit of collective creativity.

Manish Iyer

Manish and Yamini Iyer, both graduates from National Institute of Design, spearhead Design worth the brand name for all products manufactured by their firm. Their passion for different materials such as ceramics (of all kinds- studio and industrial), glass, metal, plastic, jute, leather and their production processes, has resulted in the creation of a whole gamut of applications in the field of designing tableware, lighting and accessories for the last 16 yrs, he has pioneered many a new look, technique and range of lifestyle products.

S G Ranjan and Bindoo Ranjan - S G Ranjan and Bindoo Ranjan are the founder members of K2K Designs, the 'Kraft Konnection' a Design house committed for creating a meaningful and enduring partnership amongst skilled artisans and discerning consumers and to provide Craft Design services from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

Dibyendu Mukherjee - Dibyendu Mukherjee along with three other Directors owns the company on partnership basis. Presently, the production enjoys the support of a workforce of around 250 employees in five units located in different parts of Kolkata. SAMEX INC. caters to the market of U.S.A., Canada, U.K., Germany, Spain, Australia and Spain.
